The HPE Smart Storage Battery is a low-halogen lithium-ion battery that serves as a critical backup source to protect the write cache contents in the event of an unexpected power failure of the server, ensuring they are saved to the flash memory of the HPE Smart Array Gen10 and Gen9 Performance RAID controllers. The battery also acts as a backup power source for HPE NVDIMMs, allowing all data in the DRAM to be transferred to the non-volatile NAND flash. Only one battery is required per server, as it can support multiple devices.
