The EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM is a powerful member of the professional L-series, perfectly suited for passionate sports and nature photographers. As the successor to the very popular EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM, this model impresses with several interesting improvements in image quality and user-friendliness, setting new standards in the realm of compact super-telephoto lenses.
The EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM features an optical image stabilizer (IS) and is constructed with fluorite and super UD glass to comprehensively minimize distortions and aberrations. The internal focusing with sliding elements ensures superior image sharpness across the entire autofocus working range. The lens is compatible with the EF 1.4x II and EF 2x II extenders.
This lens includes a three-stage image stabilizer, making it ideal for handheld shooting. It allows for shutter speeds up to three stops slower than normally possible without increasing the risk of camera shake. The lens detects movements in a specific direction as panning and automatically disables the image stabilizer for that direction.
A ring-type ultrasonic motor provides extremely fast and very quiet focusing, while excellent holding torque avoids inaccuracies. Manual focusing is always possible without turning off the autofocus function, allowing for adjustments without interruption.
High contrast, low distortion, and consistent resolution from the center of the image to the edges are evident throughout the zoom range. The circular aperture, which is electromagnetically controlled, ensures smooth and even background blur, making the main subject stand out more against the attractive background.
