This limited edition of the ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3070 features a completely white color scheme, in addition to all the generational improvements of the ROG Strix series. The Axial-Tech fan design is optimized for a larger heatsink that has more fins and surface area than the previous generation. The number of blades is increased across all three fans, with 13 blades on the middle fan and 11 on the auxiliary fans. The barrier ring on the side fans is trimmed down to allow for more side intake and ensure better airflow through the cooling setup. The additional blades on the middle fan and the full-height ring provide increased static pressure to direct air straight onto the GPU heat spreader. To enhance the specific roles of the middle and auxiliary fans, the rotation direction of the middle fan is reversed. This reduces air turbulence within the cooling area for an additional boost in overall thermal performance. The fans also completely shut off when the card's power consumption is low and the GPU temperature falls below 50 degrees Celsius, keeping noise levels low when the system is under light load. To transfer heat from the chip to the heatsink array, MaxContact technology has been employed to polish the surface of the heat spreader and improve smoothness at a microscopic level. The additional flatness allows for better contact with the die for improved heat transfer. The heat spreader draws heat into heat pipes, which transport it through a fin stack that occupies a large footprint of 2.9 slots. The enlarged heatsink compared to the previous generation provides more thermal headroom for the high-performance chipset.
