The Vital safety device from ABB is at the heart of a new solution that allows for the installation and connection of many different types of safety devices within the same safety circuit while maintaining safety category 4 according to EN 954-1/EN ISO 13849-1. The Vital module is based on a dynamic single-channel concept, which differs from traditional dual-channel safety relays. ABB has developed this device to accommodate up to 30 dynamic sensors in the safety circuit, which can be monitored through a Vital module. Therefore, the Vital unit can replace multiple safety relays. Safety components with output contacts can be connected to the Vital using the cost-effective Tina adapters.

The Vital also features an automatically or manually monitored reset, dual safety outputs, and an information output for reset indication and status information for PLCs. It offers cost-effective cable management and connections, an information output with two functions, an LED display for power supply, dynamic signal, and outputs, removable connector blocks, two normally closed safety outputs, as well as manual monitoring or automatic reset. It is suitable for long cable lengths and has a standard width of 22.5 mm. The protection class is IP40, and the mechanical lifespan exceeds 10 million switching cycles.
