The Crankbrothers Stamp Trail MTB shoes are worth their weight in gold

In need of a new favourite item? With their perfect blend of performance and comfort, the Stamp Trail shoes from Crankbrothers are just that to me. I put them to the test and the MTB shoes delivered in every aspect.
Cycling shoes are tricky. I have a sort of love-hate relationship with them. Whether they’re racing shoes, gravel shoes or mountain bike shoes, they all have one thing in common: while they work fine on a bike, they’re usually uncomfortable to walk in.
When I’m wearing my racing and gravel shoes, I waddle around like a duck. To me, MTB shoes often feel like clunky shoe boxes on my feet. Of course, there are models that focus more on performance and others that prioritise comfort.
Crankbrothers have managed to produce a mountain bike shoe that delivers both performance and comfort. Namely, the Stamp Trail.
Crankbrothers Stamp Trail
The Crankbrothers brand is known for multitools and pumps. In the MTB scene, however, they’ve made a name for themselves with clip-in and platform pedals. The California-based company also make really good shoes like the Stamp Trail.
On their website, they’re advertised as both enduro shoes and as being suitable for hiking trails. Obviously, they’re not meant to replace real hiking boots. Weighing in at 320 grammes per shoe in size 42, the Stamp Trail shoes really come into their own on the trail, on footpaths and during all activities before and after.
On the trail
The upper is made of lightweight, durable rip-stop material (link in German). The toe box is reinforced with thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). TPU is a rubber-like elastic material designed to protect the front of your foot in an MTB shoe. The flexible collar around the ankle is designed to keep dirt and small debris from getting into your shoes.
A special feature of the Stamp Trail shoes is the closure system, which includes a Boa Li2 dual-direction micro-adjustment wheel and a Velcro closure. Combined with the tear-resistant rip-stop upper, this provides excellent support.
Crankbrothers have incorporated their very own Match System into this flat pedal shoe, which has been optimised for the brand’s corresponding pedals. Thanks to the special rubber compound, which makes the shoe practically stick to the pedal, the grip is excellent even with my Acros flats.
For walking
Anyone who rides a mountain bike knows that you occasionally have to push or carry your bike. The better your skills, the fewer times this will be the case. But beginners, in particular, quite regularly have to walk and push. At least I used to and still have to from time to time. In moments like these or when I’m heading off for a coffee after a ride, I really appreciate having the Stamp Trail on my feet, as they offer exceptional comfort. I’ve never worn a pair this comfortable and this high-level.
But hey, being in the saddle is still more fun.

Finally, MTB shoes that feel just as good when walking as they do when riding. With features such as a Boa closure, ripstop upper, breathable ankle protection, a TPU-reinforced toe box and an optimised sole, this model offers many advantages. However, they come at a price.
The grip works great even with flat pedals from another manufacturer. Even walking is fun with the Stamp Trail. I also like the simple, elegant design in black and gold. What more could you ask for?
