Can you use the monitor for office work (Word, Excel, etc.)? I read something about colour fringing in writing.

If you only need the monitor for this purpose, I would recommend another one. The reviews about the fonts are correct. The fonts and text look blurry but not extreme. I saw the best settings video on youtube and set it accordingly. If you turn off HDR, I think it still works with the fonts. I have observed that depending on the font and size it can be "more blurred", but can also be sharp. For me personally, it's not so bad because I have a second IPS monitor and primarily edit texts there. I don't understand the comments about brightness, for me the screen is bright enough...

Well, I think it's too expensive as a pure office monitor and it's not as sharp as an LCD for text. But you can do 70% gaming/entertainment 30% office. The brightness is also not the best for office use.
